We are truly delighted that you’re interested in joining us as a Melaveh!
At Shabbat of a Lifetime, Melavim are far more than extra hands at the table. Yes, you’ll help the host family by setting up, bringing out the food, and serving — but your role is so much deeper. You are the warm presence that eases the flow of the meal, the friendly face that helps guests feel at home, and the bridge between our families and visitors.
Because of you, the hosts can focus on sharing their stories, the families can relax, and the guests can truly immerse themselves in the beauty of Shabbat. That’s why we say: a melaveh is not a waiter — a melaveh is part of the heart of the experience
How it Works:
Step 1: First Contact
Message us on WhatsApp.
You can contact Meghana - Communications Manager, +972 55 507 0330
We’ll reply with the melavim form to collect your details (Name, neighbourhood, interests, etc).
Step 2: Show us you care
We would like to send you some material to go through like Melavim manual and Job description. Then we would really appreciate if you could send us a video: a brief intro on why you want to be a melaveh and explain what you understood in those manuals in your own words.
Step 3: Observation Shabbat (your first week)
Join one of our families to observe and lend a hand alongside an experienced melaveh.
Payment: 100 ILS for this week.
Step 4: Become a melaveh/helper
We set you up to start working:
-
collect form 101 (tax declaration) and confirm bank details (already in your form).
- add you to the common SOAL melavim whatsapp group.
- A SOAL portal will be created for you to see all the details for following Shabbatots
Step 5: Helping Regularly
Every week that we have a Shabbat in relevance to your location/number of events we have that week, we’ll ask if you’re available.
If yes, we allocate you based on location/compatibility—to the nearest, best suited hosting family whenever possible.
We will also share a form every month where you can fill in which dates you would like to work and we will take note of your answers :))
You’ll get exact instructions in your portal (detailed explanation on how to access it will be given later).
Step 6: Payment Schedule
- Observation week: 100 ILS.
- Shabbat meals after that: 300 ILS
- Payout Timing: by the 10th of the following month (E.g. If you worked once/multiple times in January, you will be paid by the 10th of February).
